Gimp is a website that tries to bring internet users as many applications as it can for free and this includes some of the more impressive programs such as Photoshop. Each of the programs provides Gimp explained tutorials on how to use it to its best effect and these tutorials are also free. These programs can provide users with some great savings as, although many of the Photoshop tutorials for example, may also be free, the actual program can be quite expensive. Another advantage that Gimp has over the Adobe Photoshop program is that although the Photoshop takes up a great deal of hard drive space, Gimp only uses 1/20th of that space. Space on hard drives is of course becoming less and less of a problem as more and more space is being provided with each year’s new models of PCs, laptops and Hand held devices but, for those which may be older, hard drive space is sometimes critical and any smaller program is welcomed.
Pantone colours are colours that are liked to be used by many web designers as they match coloured images with printed material to best effect but unfortunately, Pantone colours are one thin that the Gimp program cannot provide, although Photoshop can. Apart from pantone though, the Gimp program seems to cover all the aspects which Photoshop can and many people feel that the tools provided with the Gimp program are far easier to both understand and use. Of course though, no one can receive either of these programs and immediately become an expert at using them and that is why both programs have tutorials available. As mentioned, all the tutorials for Gimp and some of the tutorials for Photoshop are free; perhaps the Photoshop will be more beneficial, not because they explain things better but because they are more widely known and certification by Photoshop may assist someone in getting a job as an image editor or similar work. Gimp also provides its own certification but that is not as widely accepted as Photoshop.
These programs are very extensive and so hence their size. They cannot only be used to edit or change images but can also be used to change videos. These changes may mean changing a coloured image to black and white or perhaps or colouring a black and white image. They can be used to increase or decrease an image size or to clean up an unfocused image. One of the Photoshop programs has been specifically designed for use with touch screens meaning that many alterations can be made with the way just two fingers interact on the screen.
If you need an imaging program and are not sure which to get, you may want to first consider getting the Gimp as it costs nothing and will not take up so much of your hard drive. Many people that have used this program do not find any reason to later pay money to buy the Photoshop as Gimp provides all that they need.
